With more than 500 carriers and 30 transport agencies, its motorway
and rail network (TGV) to the main European cities, Toulouse is
emerging as the logistical platform for southern Europe.
Public
transportation
Since 1993, the Toulouse Metro
(automatic underground railway) is linking down-town to Balma
and Basso-Cambo suburban areas, as well as a comprehensive bus services.
A second underground line is to be brought into service in 2007.
Pedestrian precincts
The underground car park capacity is 10,500 vehicles. The main shopping
streets have been turned into pedestrian-priority areas (probably
because Toulouse has the highest density of shops in France).
